ABOUT DREAMPEDDLER

Dreampeddler Productions

Producing stories worth dreaming about.

We've always had a soft spot for dreamers.

The actors who believe in impossible characters. The writers who can't leave a story alone. The producers who look at an empty stage or a blank screen and see something wonderful waiting to happen.

At Dreampeddler Productions, we happen to be a little of all three.

Founded by Nick Cavarra after a wonderfully circuitous career through Broadway, Off-Broadway, advertising at Ogilvy, and more than a few unexpected adventures, Dreampeddler is an independent production company dedicated to stories that entertain, surprise, provoke, and stay with you long after the curtain falls or the credits roll.

Our past includes award-winning theatrical productions. Our future includes a growing slate of independent films, theatrical ventures, and whatever other wonderful stories we discover along the way.

And through it all, our philosophy hasn't changed much:

Find a great story. Surround it with talented people. Dream a little bigger than you probably should.

Then get to work.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Nick Cavarra

Founder, Dreampeddler Productions

I took a slightly unusual path into storytelling.

Right out of high school, I spent three years in the 82nd Airborne Division. Somewhere along the way, I ended up singing in the All American Chorus, performing for the Jerry Lewis Telethon and at the Kennedy Center Honors when they honored Bob Hope.

When you find yourself doing that in uniform, it becomes pretty clear that the arts are probably calling.

So after the Army, I got on a fast flight to USC to study acting. Four years later, I hit the ground running in Los Angeles and New York. I worked on soaps, became the Clearasil Boy in 1993, and eventually found my way to Broadway, appearing in King David, Grease!, and The Scarlet Pimpernel. I also toured and worked regionally in shows like West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Into the Woods, Evita, and plenty more.

Then the producer bug bit.

Staying close to my love of theater, I produced the award-winning Off-Broadway musical Fanny Hill at the York Theatre, which earned two Drama Desk nominations and a Drama League Award, as well as Richard Cory, written by A.R. Gurney and Ed Dixon, which received a Talkin’ Broadway Citation for Best Musical and was voted one of the top three musicals in the New York Musical Theatre Festival. I also helped launch the business talk radio show 2MinutesWith, hosted by Renee Fraser and Betsy Berkhemer, which aired on KFWB News Talk 980 in Los Angeles.

Eventually, I pivoted again — this time into advertising, which may be the closest thing to entertainment without actually calling it entertainment. I’ve spent years moving between boutique agencies and major holding companies, including Ogilvy, always in growth roles, always pitching, always trying to find the story that makes people care.

Over the past year, I’ve felt a real pull back toward the entertainment world. I started revisiting scripts I wrote in a past life, expecting to cringe a little. And sure, there was some of that. But to my surprise, some of the work still had a pulse. Some of it still felt relevant. Some of it felt worth fighting for.

So I’ve been rewriting, rebuilding, and reconnecting with the part of myself that was always there — the performer, the producer, the storyteller.

And honestly, I’ve loved every minute of it.
