The Reckoning at Calvary

A drama written by Nick Cavarra

A debt-ridden blues guitarist returns to his dying New Mexico hometown where, forced to build one last guitar alongside his grieving father, he must confront the accident that shattered their family before it consumes what little remains.

THE STORY

Some things can only be said through music.

In the worn, quiet town of Cordova, New Mexico, a struggling musician returns to the father he left behind—a master guitar maker who has spent years retreating into craftsmanship and grief.

As they work together on a final instrument, memories of Rosa and the tragedy that divided their family resurface. Between the church, the workshop, and the diner, father and son must confront the silence they've mistaken for survival.

A WORLD WITH MEMORY

Northern New Mexico

Cordova's weathered streets, a church, and a wood-and-dust workshop give the film its sense of place. The setting is intimate and lived-in, where faith, loss, and family history linger in every room.

THE LANGUAGE OF THE FILM

Blues, Classical, and Craft

Torres finds refuge in the improvisational freedom of blues. His father finds order in classical guitar and the discipline of making instruments by hand. Their competing ways of playing—and living—carry emotions neither can easily put into words.
